Okay...so now you are wondering...during my 3 years on the JET program, what are some things I am glad I did, glad I didn't do, and wished I did. Well, here is my list. Enjoy!!

Glad I did do!!

-Traveled to Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Shizuoka, Nikko, Matsumoto, Kanazawa, Chiba, Nagasaki.

-Traveled to Singapore (before the SARS scare!!)

-Very fortunate to be able to work in an environment where I teach at 3 schools of different academic abilities (1 above average school, 1 average school, and 1 lowest level in the entire northern Kanagawa prefecture level school!!)

-Experienced Japanese traditional (and contemporary) customs. For example, watched a Rakugo performance, performed a para para dance for the school festival, sing karaoke in front of a LOT of students, eat Natto and Umeboshi, go to a ryokan (japanese style inn), wear a yukata (japanese summer clothes), understand some Japanese customs (such as what to say when entering a house, and so on), go to a (actually MANY!!!) LOVE HOTELS (I RECOMMEND THIS ONE!!!), experienced a Japanese tea ceremony.....lets see...what else???

Glad (or wished) I DIDN'T do

-Dated a Japanese girl who was a BAD girl!! (she was a smoker, and a hostess girl, and a bad...bad girl!!) Thank goodness she is out of my life.

-'Always' go to Roppongi (I actually am not interested in going to places that are frequented by a lot of 'bad' foreigners). I admit that I have gone to Roppongi twice...but the area I went to was the nice area of Roppongi!! ;)

-Be closed minded (or else I wouldn't have experienced so much Japanese culture and customs! Being open minded is the key to success in living in Japan!!).

-Make the Kocho Sensei (School Principal) angry at me for disobeying one of her requests (she became really angry at me! Almost ruined the 'wa.' Luckily...later, things turned out okay, I think?)
